Pence says he won’t vote for Trump in 2024

Pence draws laughter for response on whether he’d vote for Trump in 2024

Pence drew a bit of laughter Monday night when he took the stage at the RNC back in Cleveland and said he would not vote for Donald Trump in 2024. “No… I’m not voting for him,” Pence said to a round of laughs.

Pence explained that he was the vice presidential candidate in 2016, and that Trump promised him he could name him as VP in 2024. “I’m not Donald Trump, so the answer is no.”

Pence noted that Trump has been “very critical” of the Iran deal, and that he is a strong supporter of North Korea. These are foreign policy issues, Pence added, that are “absolutely” worth considering.

“I think Donald Trump, and especially now as you see him in the press, is not a reliable person,” Pence said. “I think he just doesn’t understand anything about the world we have now, and the world we will have in the future. But I think he is an opportunist.”

Pence said he would be voting for whoever was the Republican nominee in 2024.

“I’m going to make that decision in the next cycle,” Pence said, to a laugh from the audience.

Cleveland RNC: What are you going to do at the Republican National Convention?

Pence: I will be a delegate. And I will walk the stage as one of those delegates and I will say something when the nominee is announced. And if I have the opportunity, after we see who the nominee is, I’ll make that decision, which will be on my tombstone, who am I going to vote for, and as long as there is even a remote chance, I will vote for the person I believe is best.
