Kamala Harris: “We have never seen this kind of legislation before”

States with poor climate policy ‘overlap’ with those seeking to limit rights, Kamala Harris says

‘We have never seen this kind of legislation before.’

California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris said on Sunday that she was seeing a common thread in the Republican efforts to roll back the climate protections for communities that were passed in the president’s executive order.

Harris told NBC’s “Meet the Press” it appeared that the efforts to weaken the environment were “overlayed with racial attacks,” adding that she was seeing an “overlap” with the anti-LGBT efforts in Congress.

“We have not seen this kind of legislation before,” Harris said, speaking about a bill passed in the House of Representatives this week that would undermine a provision in the Affordable Care Act that protects health benefits for transgender people.

In March, Harris tweeted: “House Republicans are rolling back protections for transgender Americans’ health care under #Obamacare. Please write to your Senators and demand they continue protections for trans Americans.”

In response, House Republican leaders announced they would oppose the bill in a party-line vote.

“The people of California and across America are calling on their Republican colleagues to stand up to the extreme political agenda being advanced by the President,” Harris tweeted in response, adding: “Republicans are not listening to their constituents or their constituents are not listening to their Republican colleagues. If we’re going to fight the extreme agenda being pushed by President Trump, the People of California are going to have to take action.”
