Democratic candidates want Jill Biden — not her ‘polarizing’ husband — on the campaign trail: report
SALT LAKE CITY — The couple who is leading the Democratic primary fight against President Donald Trump is looking to use the couple’s wife on the campaign trail in a bid to shore up support.
Jill Biden, husband Joe Biden’s vice president, will appear at an event in Pennsylvania Thursday and then travel to Iowa, said a campaign spokesperson for the couple, who previously sought to separate the two families.
A campaign spokesperson for the Biden campaign said the first lady will visit several Iowa communities, including Ames, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.
On Thursday, Biden will join a community forum in East Liverpool, Ohio, a city which is deeply religious and socially and politically diverse.
The Biden campaign has not provided specifics about the location of the Iowa events. The candidate has already traveled to Massachusetts and Ohio.
The Biden campaign has sought to separate the families, creating a campaign operation called “The Unity Tour.” But the campaign has not said whether they’re still using the name as it relates to the vice president’s wife.
The husband, President Trump’s top domestic policy adviser, will travel to West Virginia and Tennessee.
A Biden aide told a group of University of Iowa students that Joe Biden’s job as vice president is to be a “great president for our country.”
The vice president’s wife has become known as a forceful, outspoken public figure, though she and the ex-senator have not always been on speaking terms.
In July, she was booed loudly when she told a crowd that she was a proud African American: “And I am a proud American.”
The vice president’s wife has not held elective office. She is, however, widely considered highly influential in the Biden family. They have four children – four-year-old Theodore in Michigan before his parents’ divorce; 4-year-old Hunter Biden; 17-year-old Beau in Delaware, where Joe Joe Biden is a senator; and 19-year-old Hunter in Delaware.
“There are millions of people out there who are excited about the Biden family, who trust and believe that they are the most honest, ethical, and capable adult in the Biden family and that they
